This course introduces undergraduate students to the foundational concepts of Legal Literacy, empowering them with the knowledge of basic legal rights, duties, and remedies within the Indian legal framework. Designed in alignment with the NEP 2020 guidelines, it aims to create informed and responsible citizens who are aware of the structure, principles, and functioning of the law in everyday life.

The curriculum covers:

• The Indian Constitution: its structure, values, and significance

• Basic fundamental rights and duties of citizens

• Key areas of civil, criminal, and consumer law

• Laws related to women, children, marginalized groups, and workplace rights

• Awareness of legal institutions and grievance redressal mechanisms

• Legal procedures for FIR filing, RTI, and public interest litigation

• Contemporary legal issues such as cyber law, environmental law, and human rights

The course also emphasizes practical knowledge, critical thinking, and real-life application of legal concepts through case studies, activities, and field interactions wherever applicable.
